From Sheep Ranch to Seaside Golf Landmark

Sea Ranch Golf Links sits on what was once a windswept sheep ranch along the Pacific. Its transformation into a golf destination began in 1974, when Robert Muir Graves designed the first nine holes. The course was completed in 1995 with the opening of the second nine—creating a par-72, 6649-yard championship experience.

This pioneering links-style design—flat fairways, sweeping roughs, coastal winds—was the first of its kind in California. Graves’s design left more than half the site untouched, incorporating cypress windbreaks and natural hazards to preserve the coastal character.

Natural corridors of sea sage, sea oats, and native grasses serve as the “roughs by the sea.” The design philosophy encourages golfers to embrace natural elements, not overcome them.

Preservation Commitment:

Morning tee times are shared with coastal wildlife, from bobcats and deer to more than 30 species of birds. Whales are visible in the distance and harbor seals sun along the shoreline. Trees and plant life are protected and celebrated as part of the Sea Ranch ecosystem.
